Clay-Field Therapy

The clay-field is a simple box of clay, in which the hands are invited to explore. As we allow our hands to find what they need in the present moment, early attachment issues and developmental setbacks can be addressed, as well as traumatic events that overwhelmed the nervous system in the past. It is based entirely on the sense of touch and done with eyes closed (for adults) or open (for children). Working in this way, with appropriate support, can help us move past constriction and fear towards empowerment and safety- even many years after a traumatic event. And this can be done, moreover, in a gentle way that does not primarily rely on verbal processing. Clay-field therapy has been successfully employed in the treatment of ADHD, as well as trauma, depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, and other mental health issues. It can be especially effective when there is difficulty expressing emotions verbally. The number of sessions required can vary, depending on the complexity of the issues involved.

Clay-field can be a little messy, so while aprons are provided (and clay washes out very easily), wearing appropriate clothing is recommended. Parents of children participating in clay-field therapy are invited to sit quietly in the same room at a respectful distance or in an adjoining space with the door open, depending on the child’s comfort level. Payment per session is cash or check only, $180 per session.
